a heartfelt but uneven portrait of springsteen’s creative process. it captures the boss’s spirit and solitude, but feels more like a reverent museum piece than a living, breathing story. great music, strong interviews, but the spark fades before the credits roll

Of all of the recent spate of rock star biopics, I think this is probably the weakest I’ve seen. That’s not because Jeremy Allen White doesn’t convince. For the most part he does. It’s that they have picked a part of his life that showcases this man’s search for his own version of emotional, musical and acoustic perfection, and it’s not really that interesting.
