Overview
The Civil War between the Northern and Southern states was the costliest and bloodiest war in the U.S. history. At stake was the nations very existence. Between 1861 and 1865, countless battles were fought and thousands of lives were lost all in the name of preserving the Union. This program takes viewers through the famous battles at Shiloh, Antietam, and Gettysburg which pitted brother against brother and neighbor against neighbor. Students will understand the impact of Union General Ulysses S. Grant and Confederate General Robert E. Lee, who became legends and the nobility of the President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, who became a martyr in his noble crusade to end slavery. From the first shots fired upon Fort Sumter to surrender at Appomattox Court House, the Civil War would change America from a nation divided to a truly United States forever.
