Overview

Based on a novel written by the artist in 2022, the first chapter examines the tension between individual experience and collective frameworks through which events are understood. The narrative revolves around the fictional story of Qū (the Chinese word for “torso”), a disabled woman who is part of a collective. The work combines the artist’s own video material with footage appropriated from mass media and surveillance imagery. Here, the fragility of the human body becomes a metaphor for the heterogeneity of collective memory, while past, present and future are seen as being caught in a perennial cycle of control and amnesia, fabricated truths and omissions.
