Collar basiert lose auf einem Traum, den Regisseur Ryan Nicholson vor einiger Zeit hatte. Spontan von der Idee eines Obdachlosen, der Frauen ankettet, foltert und vergewaltigt, fasziniert, rief er eine Indiegogo Kampagne ins Leben, um den Film von seinen Fans pledgen zu lassen.
