Jorge Enrique Goitizolo
Biography
Jorge Enrique Goitizolo, of whose biography very little is known, is the quintessential documentarian of the early phase of Peruvian cinema. From a family originally from the port of Callao, Goitizolo began practicing photography in his youth. Along with Fernando Lund, Manuel Morales, Luis Ugarte, among others, he was one of the forerunners of photojournalism in his work as a photographer for the illustrated magazine Actualidades and the newspaper La Crónica. Employed by the Cinema Teatro Company, in 1912 he traveled to Bolivia, commissioned to film the Bolivian Army's swearing of allegiance to the flag in La Paz. A year earlier, he filmed the Paraguayan Centennial celebrations in May 1911. Around 1915, all traces of his whereabouts are lost, and his fate becomes enigmatic. A 1927 edition of the magazine Cines y Estrellas lists him as deceased.
